From digital geography to public practice.
Dr Hao Wu is an interdisciplinary researcher working across media, space and education. His practice connects geographical inquiry with public-facing storytelling, asking how research can become more inclusive, accessible and alive.

A digital geographer with a media lens.
I completed my PhD in Digital Geography at University College London, combining media and geographical perspectives to explore queer lives and hybrid spaces in China.

Research should make room for more voices.
In 2025, I served as the UCL Faculty of Social and Historical Sciences Representative and was nominated and shortlisted for Academic Rep of the Year. I brought my commitment to diversity and inclusion into everyday academic life.

From participation to authorship.
In 2026, I joined the Early Career Editorial Board of Digital Geography and Society. I also contributed to a UCL ChangeMakers-funded project and published my first article as second and corresponding author.

Turning fieldwork into shared experience.
As a Research Assistant, I contributed to The Hong Kong Experience, helping translate research on migration, memory and belonging into a public-facing project for families and communities.

Four years learning how ideas travel.
During my PhD, I worked part-time for four years in social media operations at China Telecom Europe, managing content and community across Xiaohongshu and WeChat within a Fortune Global 500 telecommunications group.
Research gives me the questions. Media gives them form. Education makes space for others to take part.

Experience.
The Hong Kong Experience: My Nottingham celebrates the experiences of Hong Kong families who have moved to Nottingham through workshops, a public exhibition and a short film. I shaped the research story and translated the fieldwork into a public-facing film.
